Hi, I am

Geofrey Asiimwe

Full-stack software engineer in Kampala.

About

I build the client applications people use and the backend systems those applications depend on. Most recently I worked on SoundSys at BMAT, a back-office platform for music collecting societies. It manages repertoire, matches broadcast usage to recordings, validates rights, and distributes performance royalties.

Before BMAT I built a React product and Django API at MassChallenge, contributed an order-entry app to OpenMRS, and worked at Andela as an engineer, a technical team lead, and a QA automation engineer. I live in Kampala and have worked on distributed teams for most of my career.

    BMAT

    Software Engineer

BMAT indexes music usage and ownership so artists get paid. I worked on SoundSys, the platform collecting societies use to manage repertoire, match usage, validate rights, and pay royalties.

    • Built systems that turn matched usage into royalty payouts, including fund allocation, distribution runs, and society-facing reports.
    • Worked on pro-rata distribution, member exclusion, sister-society allocations, and reports for organizations such as PPL India, MRSS, and ASIRINDO.
    • Contributed to usage-to-repertoire matching, including priority-based matching, ISRC validation, and IPAB distribution workflows.
    • Worked on the SingleView pipeline, ingesting repertoire from DDEX, Excel, and CSV, then deduplicating metadata and reconciling sound recordings.
    • Migrated Django from 2.2 to 4.1, upgraded Celery to v5, and improved Elasticsearch indexing and rights-validation performance.

    MassChallenge

    Software Engineer

MassChallenge runs a zero-equity accelerator for startups. I built and maintained a React client and the Django API behind it, and worked on a Django application that spanned several repositories. The team was distributed across Uganda, Kenya, and the United States.

    Andela

    Software Engineer · Technical Team Lead, Jul 2018 – Oct 2019 · QA Engineer, Nov 2018 – Feb 2019

Andela builds distributed engineering teams. I contributed to internal Django and React applications, led simulation projects for new developers, ran standups and sprint reviews, and wrote Puppeteer and Selenium test automation.

    Contributor

OpenMRS is an open-source medical record platform. I built a client-facing order entry application in React and Redux that the community put into use, and led a few sprints with a team across Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, and the United States.
